Date: April 10, 1945
Notes: This telegram was sent on April 10, 1945 letting Wally’s mother Helene know that her son had been injured on March 24, 1945. The mission was a low-level resupply over the Rhine to provide critical supplies for troops making the final push into Germany to secure Allied Victory. The injury described resulted in Wally receiving a Purple Heart.

Notes: Wally’s mother Helene received a telegram from Western Union that he was back in the United States in Connecticut and expected to be home in a week. His humor and empathy ring true in his request for a turkey.
